IKEA KNÄPPA

As part of the PS 2012 collection, IKEA introduced KNÄPPA, a playful and eco-friendly cardboard camera designed to empower people to capture the beauty of everyday life. This simple yet innovative camera invited users to document their world, connecting design with real-life moments.

IDEA
The KNÄPPA camera embodied IKEA’s flatpack spirit, combining sustainability and innovation into a practical tool. It encouraged creative engagement, allowing people to turn moments into memories and celebrate everyday life through a different lens.

ATTENTION
Designed in collaboration with Teenage Engineering, KNÄPPA’s cardboard body was a bold departure from traditional photography. Its simplicity and creativity drew attention as a unique, accessible tool for capturing authentic, everyday moments.

DESIRE
KNÄPPA wasn’t about technology but the experience. By making photography fun and accessible, it empowered users to view their world through the IKEA lens, capturing life in its rawest form while connecting with IKEA’s ethos of democratic design.

MEMORY
At Salone del Mobile 2012, KNÄPPA became a symbol of IKEA’s mission to make design and creativity accessible to everyone. It invited people to capture life with simplicity, sustainability, and style, leaving a lasting impression of IKEA’s innovative spirit.
